The regular maintenance of the octane testing engine is very necessary to prolong the service life of octane engine, and to obtain the reliable octane number rating of sample fuel. Like a car, an octane testing engine needs to work well with good performances all the time. The work used in the octane engine inspection, adjustment, and even top overhaul is a major factor in achieving these aims.
The types of octane testing engine maintenance are recommended as below:
Top Overhaul: It generally accepted term used to describe valve reconditioning, the cleaning of the combustion chamber, piston, and piston rings, and the cleaning of the coolant jacket passages and the coolant condenser. Some other parts may also be given attention during a top overhaul, depending on need. The details of the top overhaul of octane test engine will be described in a later blog post.
Crankcase/Octane Testing Unit Inspection: Encompasses crankcase cleaning, mechanical component wear checks, alarm function checks, power absorption motor inspection, belt tension adjustment, instrumentation checks, and so forth. The recommended interval between crankcase/octane test unit inspections is every 2000 h of operation or biannually, whichever comes first.
Auxiliary Equipment Maintenance: Volumetric glassware such as reference fuel blending burets should be chemically cleaned on a regular basis to ensure accurate volumetric measurement. The automated reference fuel blending unit/reference fuel blender shall be calculated regularly to ensure accurate blends weight measurement. Calculations of volumetric apparatuses is recommended. The intake air humidity control unit shall be maintained regularly. The air filter element and refrigerating liquid shall be checked and changed regularly.
Carbon Blasting: Combustion chamber deposits can be effectively removed by carbon blasting without removal of the cylinder from the engine. Performed on a regular basis between top overhauls, this technique effectively extends the period of time between these mechanical overhauls.
Octane testing engine regular maintenance schedule can be found in the operation manual we provide. Please perform the regular maintenances according to the operation manual. If technical support from the manufacturer is required, SINPAR provides on-site octane testing engines maintenance and overhaul services.
